What Is the Combat Robotics League?
Our Combat Robotics League is the only robotics competition for kids in NJ where students engineer combat robots from the ground up — designing weapon systems, armor, and drive trains — then put them to the test in our arena. It’s mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and strategic thinking compressed into the most exciting STEM experience in New Jersey. Design & Engineering
CAD concepts, weight budgets, material selection, and weapon geometry. As a result, every design decision has real consequences in the arena — just like professional engineering.
Build & Fabrication
Metal work, 3D printing, motor mounting, wiring, and weapon assembly. In other words, students build every component themselves using real tools and real materials.
Electronics & Control
ESCs, receivers, battery management, and failsafes. Because the electronics have to survive impacts, reliability is everything — and that teaches real-world engineering discipline.
Strategy & Competition
Arena tactics, driver practice, post-match analysis. Students learn to adapt and improve after every fight.
Engineering Under Pressure
In the arena, there's no tech support. When a motor stalls, a connection breaks, or a weapon jams mid-match, students troubleshoot and debug in real time. That's not just robotics — that's problem-solving under pressure, and it builds grit that lasts a lifetime.
Trial and error is the curriculum. Every match is a lesson in iterative design. Students analyze what broke, figure out why, and come back with a better build. Weight classes, material budgets, and time constraints force real engineering trade-offs — just like in professional engineering.
